Living with Botero
Colombian artist Fernando Botero is undoubtedly one of the world’s most distinctive and influential artists. A master of colour and volume, his renowned paintings and sculptures immediately evoke the colourful traditions and complex history of his native land. Imbued with the dazzling delights and bright warmth of South America, his signature style of boterismo is a festival of plump, joyous abundance, simultaneously poignant and irreverent. His landmark solo show “Botero in China” at the China Art Museum, Shanghai (2016) brought this global phenomenon further fanfare and acclaim in China. Now, a major show at Ora-Ora’s new space in Tai Kwun brings a vivid and diverse array of Botero’s paintings, drawings and sculptures to Hong Kong for the first time. Recreating the artist’s apartment in the gallery, the show includes several paintings which hung in Botero’s home.
