Ni Youyu 倪有魚
Ni Youyu was born in Jiangxi in 1984. He graduated from Fine Art College of Shanghai University in 2007, and currently lives and works in Shanghai.
One of the most exciting artists of his generation, artist and curator Ni Youyu is active in painting, installation, sculpture, photography, and collage. Resistant to easy classification either in concept, material or category, Ni Youyu’s artworks seem to transcend temporal structures, to present objects whose utility, appearance, or state places them neither in this time, nor in past or future.
Ni Youyu was awarded the Contemporary Chinese Art Award (CCAA) as “Best Young Artist” in 2014. His solo exhibitions include The Last Sunset, Galerie Perrotin, Shanghai (2019), Relic, Contemporary Fine Arts, Berlin (2018) and The Endless Second, Gallery Nathalie Obadia, Paris (2017). His group exhibitions include 16.52 Sqm Open Sea at Ora-Ora (2019), and In Front of the Sea, Passerelle Centre d'Art Contemporain, Brest, France, Facing the Collector: The Sigg Collection of Contemporary Art from China, Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art, Turin, Out of the Shadows: Contemporary Chinese Photography, Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego (2020).
