Wucius Wuxie Wong 王無邪
Wucius Wong was born in Guangzhou in 1936. He lives and works in Hong Kong, where he plays a lead role in shaping the art ecosystem of the city through his involvement in government bodies, academia, and his own art practice.
Wucius Wong studied art under Lui Shou-Kwan in the 1950s and has been a key figure in Hong Kong’s ink art movement since his return to the city in the 1960s, following his studies in the US. His distinct brand of abstraction, his art teaching and engagement has resulted in awards including the Bronze Bauhinia Star Medal by the Hong Kong SAR Government in 2007, and an Emeritus Fellowship from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 1998.
His work is represented in the collections of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Shanghai Art Museum, National Art Gallery in Beijing, British Museum, Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Art Institute of Chicago, Minnesota Art Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Cleveland Museum of Art, Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, Sackler Museum of the Harvard University, Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst, Berlin and National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne among others.
