The inspiration for the work stems from the artist’s admiration of a lake in Japan. Staring blatantly into the stillness of the water, Cheung studied and recreated the exquisite interplay of foliage and the depth of the lake, arousing our own apprehension of how one interrelates with our environment.
作品是張施烈兩年前在日本參觀動物園時，看見水溝或小型的湖泊而有所啟發。《Dead Water》裡小巧的落葉如閃爍的金箔飄落在水面之上，泛起優美之姿，不禁讓人思考真實和想像之間的「空」（間），同時透過描繪水面反映的繁茂樹影，思考自身與環境的互動。
